24 week update on hammy and mommy

Today I am officially 24 weeks and 3 days preggo.  So that leaves me just about 15 weeks left before our little peanut pops out. yay!!  that's not too far along!  Well, I went for my 2nd consultation with the high risk obstetrician at UT Medical again today, just to go through some follow up session from my first visit.  I am still categorized as the lowest risk in the high risk pregnancy, which is why I go on my regular check ups at both UT and Blount.  I am so happy to have the quickest follow up check up today coz everything looks good.   I saw my baby boy again (which you can view his latest 1D ultrasound under http://theresahammyinmytummy.blogspot.com/p/hammy-shots.html) and he is still a boy haha.  I did notice that his little weiner grew!  hahaha  It's not just a small nubbin', you can see the actual scrotum and the nub area hihi.  So cute!  As usual, Ryan and I are always anxious to feel the heartbeat so the moment that we heard it, it's like music to our ears! :)   He grew alot.  He is already 1 lbs and 8 ounces (1.5b lbs) and more than 11 inches long.  Can you believe that?  He is now a size of a ruler.  His organs are all complete and like my first high-risk ultrasound, I still have 2 vessel cords (normal is 3) but again, Dr. Howard reassured me that it's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.  He said our babe is now at 39 percentile of his gestational growth, which is quite confusing because I am already more than halfway through my pregnancy.  Dr. did reassure me that it is quite normal.

Other than that I am so surprised, and I would bet money that their weighing scale is wrong, to find out I gained 5 lbs this week!!  I do not think so unless my belly got bigger or the baby got so big.  The thing is the weighing scale at Blount is the traditional weighing scale that is manually adjusted while the UT medical weighing scale is electronic.  So i don't know why it is registering that I grew by 5 lbs!  Also, their blood pressure measure is much higher than my normal.  I normally have 110-120/ 70 blood pressure.  Today I am at 127 / 78.  Maybe I just lack sleep coz I have to wake up very early for my check up.  Anywho, the point is, me and the baby are healthy.  :)

Note to self:  Since I am too concerned about my weight gain, I need to buy me a weighing scale (I hate weighing scales so I don't have one right now haha). :P

pregnancy sexy time

At some point I have to bring up sexy time in this blog because number 1) that is how I got pregnant, and number 2) sexy time is a natural thing between pregnant couple. Well, the reason why I am blogging today is because I have not felt my baby kicked this much after sexy time!   I have read in several pregnancy blog sites that the rocking during the act wakes the baby up, and usually after the deed is done and you are laying down still, he starts moving around. It's just funny how I just noticed the very strong karate kicks today from inside my tummy (yes I got some today haha) after spending an intimate evening with Daddy Ryan. :)

3AM heartburns & chronic urination

Ok I am officially 23 weeks and 5 days pregnant and I noticed that I have been getting some mild heartburn from time to time, mostly during the nighttime.  I took a sip of my juice before going to bed (well because I am thirsty!) and that's when it started tonight.  I did read somewhere that heartburn during this period of the pregnancy is common.  It is just a damn nuisance.  I need to drink milk because they said it helps reduce the heartburn, but we ran out of milk today.  Can vanilla ice cream count? :)

Other than that I love it when I wake up in the middle of the night because my baby is probably doing somersaults or backstrokes inside my belly.  Since he is 20th week old and started exploring the inside of my uterus where is he currently swimming in goo, I pee like two dozen times a day.  And yes, since he is awake mostly during early mornings, i get up about 3 times every hour to pee.  I think he is practicing mommy to some sleepless night.  What he does not know yet is mommy is used to the night shift - thanks to my former professional career, ha!

Anyway, I better hit the john again and go back to bed because this little boy here will not stop for the next hour.  But mommy needs some sleep.  So goodnight ya'll!

Always celebrate birthdays with a cake

Always celebrate birthdays with a cake.  Another breathe to blow the candles will not knock the life out of you. (21Mar2010, by Chris Ann Herron)

I am a firm believer of celebrating birthdays every year.  Alot of people tend to lose interest and excitement as they grow older and tend to just set aside the day that they entered this world.  NOT ME.  I love birthdays.  I'd say that every year, my interest in my birthday gets a little different.  Like I do not care about gifts and parties any longer.  But i still like remembering this day and this will always be my special day.  Heck I am alive because of this day!

That's how my favorite mantra came about.  At least have a birthday cake to celebrate the day you were born, if you are not a party person like I am.  And that's what exactly my sweet pudding of a husband did - he got me a festive purple birthday cake!  It's not UBE flavor but still I have a birthday cake!    We just had a simple intimate lunch at home because he has to work today, and then I blew my cake. :)  Tomorrow he is gonna take me out after our doctor's appointment.    The most special thing about this day is I've got this small bundle of gift inside my belly!  The best birthday gift ever!

So, as I always say, always celebrate birthdays with a cake, before your last breath.  :)

Happy Birthday to me!

Jamming with my baby

So about 4 days ago, I started playing some music for Ryan Jr. so I have headphones on my belly everyday for about 30 minutes or so.  I read that when the baby starts approaching it's 5th month, their auditory senses gets alot stronger and sense of hearing is fully developed.  I always talk to my belly because I also read that he would soon start to recognize my voice and the sound of familiar voices around him, even though it will come in as muffled.

Anywho like what alot of studies shows, I started playing Beethoven's music for him and he likes it!  He started kicking and moving around and at one point I think I even woke him up but he does like it!  Although I think he likes fast music more than the classical or mellow ones because his kicks are more bad ass with rock tunes haha.

Well, it's been our exercise daily since a few days ago and will continue doing it until I have to give birth.  :)

building the baby bed

Last week Ryan put up the two cribs - one in our room and one in the boy's room.  Unbelievable that there's a tiny bed sitting inside our bedroom.  yay!

Notice Ryan's bootylicious? hahaha...The last photo is the crib inside master's bedroom.

some belly loving

Mommy and Ryan Junior are getting some good belly smooching from daddy! :)

Pinoy's Pamahiin sa Pagbunbuntis (Filipino Beliefs in Pregnancy)

In the Philippines, we call superstitions, "paniniwala" or "pamahiin." Majority of these are handed down from the elderlies.  I remember asking my mom where did all these came about and she told me that back in the ancient time, people really do not have alot of things to do and do not have all the scientific information that we know now, so they came up with beliefs of what they see around them.  I am not superstitious at all but being a Filipino myself, I tend to follow some of the beliefs about pregnancy probably just because I grew up hearing them.  Majority of these are just too funny and does not make sense.  I decided to compile them and will continue compiling the beliefs from the US too haha.   I mean it does not hurt any to follow some of them, doesn't it?

(If a pregnant woman's abdomen is pointed, her baby will be a boy; if it is round, it will be a girl.  Then why is mine big and round and I am having a boy??)

(If she ate two bananas which are conjoined to each other, like twins, there will be twins in her womb.)

(Pregnant women should not cut their hair so the baby will have hair.)

(When pregnant, do not sit with your legs far apart, it prolongs labor.)

(Pregnant women are not supposed to take a bath for a week after giving birth.  NO WAY!)

(Have plenty soups such as tinola to increase milk supply.)

(There is a special oil or ointment concocted by elderlies that you have to put on a baby's tummy to relieve constipation.  Also, the belly button should always be bandaged even though it has healed.  Does not make sense eh?)

(To avoid hexes, put a red dot using lipstick or put saliva on the baby's forehead OR belly button. Now isn't that disgusting?)

(If a kid has a hiccup, put a small piece of thread on the kid's or baby's forehead for the hiccups to go away.  doh?)

(For pregnant women or those who just gave birth, place a clove of garlic by the window to avoid bad luck.  I thought garlic is to scare of vampires?)

(According to the elderlies, babies grow healthier if given a bath under the rain at the month of March.  It is called "Agua de Mayo.")

*Bawal mamintas kapag buntis. (You shoud not criticize or even look at an ugly person while pregnant.  Your baby might look like that ugly person.)

(The child cannot move house or travel long distances if he's not yet baptized.)

(The umbilical cords of siblings may be tied together and hung by the window so that they will remain close to one another)

(Display the christening gown of the child during the reception after baptism. Place it where guests will see it. The child will become friendly and sociable.)

(When the child is able to eat solid food, let it munch on cooked chicken's behind so it will be able to master the art of speech faster.)

(Use a book as the baby's first pillow, so the child will become intelligent. )

(On the child's first birthday, gather things around him. Whatever he will like to play with will be his life's passion.)

(Also on their first birthday, ask somebody who you would like their traits to be imitated by your child to be the first one to cut his hair. Usually this bit of hair
is also inserteed in a book to make the child intelligent.)

(When a child sucks his toes, he's asking for a sibling.)

(Cut the child's eyelashes to make it grow long.)

(Say the words, "Pwera Usog" whenever you greet an infant to avoid giving the baby tummy aches)

belly farts

I am officially 21 weeks and 2 days into my pregnancy today.  For the past week, our boy has been most active and moving around alot and i have been experiencing belly farting several times a day.  Some pregnant women says it feels like butterflies and little flutters inside.  I thought it felt like farts.  Like the kind that bubbles inside.  Sometime it feels like sonic waves rolling inside my belly haha.  I like to call it belly farts hehe.   I have never experienced anything like this before, even during my first pregnancy.  When I was 20 weeks pregnant with Joaquin (our first boy), I did not feel any kind of movement.  I feel twitches and very small poking but not the kind of gargling and rolling inside my belly.  It's amazing how a banana size living creature growing inside me can make me feel tingly and giggly when I feel it.  It's true what alot of mothers say that the feeling is unbelievably indescribable.

Ryan Jr usually is awake during night time, between 11PM to about 2AM.  He has several movements during the afternoon too. I read in alot of articles and forums that most women experience the same thing and it is because when mothers are laying down still, you would feel every movement going on inside your body.  During the daytime when you are moving around, walking and doing things, you could barely feel the baby moving.  Some doctors says that it's also because babies tend to sleep during the times that mommies are moving around because the rocking makes them sleep.  And during the times that mommy is relaxing, the baby is more aware of what is going on because everything is very still.  Amazing isn't it.  They can think! :)

There are several weird things though associated by all the baby movements.  One is I pee like 2 dozen times a day.  There are instances when I go use the toilet 5 times in one hour!  I guess it's the baby kicking my bladder.  I am still constipated as usual, so I have to continue taking my stool softener which I think helps.  Farting is not yet a dominant activity in my pregnancy which is quite annoying because the feeling of small things moving around your belly and building up gas is not the most comfortable feeling.  So my husband says he would do the farting for me (which he does ALOT haha).

There are times that I freak out a little when Ryan Jr does not move for hours.  Then I just think to myself that he is sleeping or napping.  So everytime I feel him move, I get really giddy and relieved.  I guess it's the trauma of my first pregnancy.  I know Ryan Jr is a fighter and really feisty too.  Man, can he kick! hehe.

Stephanie, my brother-in-law's wife, told me that she used to drink orange juice when she was pregnant, everytime she does not feel any movement (coz like me, she freaks out too... so i am not the only lunatic after all!).  Then I read that when mommies eat anything that is sweet or sugary, babies tend to be active, probably because of the sugar rush.  I drink orange juice almost everyday for the vitamin C but now that I got this great tip, I am also drinking it for my baby's sustenance.

Belly farts are the next best thing to going to the sonograph room to see your babies ultrasound and see him and hear his heartbeat.  Like regular flatulence, my belly farting is the most comforting and relaxing feeling in the whole wide world! :)

tummy table

I can now use my tummy as my mini table yay!  Yesterday, a can.  Who knows in a couple of weeks, my cereal bowl and here in a few months, a plate! :)  Yay! haha

Jethro? Really?

Conversation between Dad Mike and I the other day:

Dad:   Hello, how are you?
Me:  I am well, how are you?
Dad:  I am good!  Well, you know down here in TN, it is customary that grandparents get to name their grandkids.
Me (chuckling):  Oh really, I have not heard that.
Dad:  Oh yeah, I have picked up a name for our little grandson
Me:  What is it?
Dad:  JETHRO.
Me: O.... K.... Jethro? Really?
Dad:  It will grow on you
Me:  Yeah it will take many years before it does. haha

Bye bye jeans...hello muumuus! :)

Time to pack away clothes that don't fit.  Well all of my clothes don't fit anymore except a few muumuu dresses. :)  I put away more than a dozen pair of jeans and pants, a few skirts and alot of my blouses.  A few months vacation for my clothes would not hurt but hopefully I get to wear all of them again before Christmas this year, HA!  I need start wearing Ryan's clothes soon haha. Then again, muumuu dresses!  I love them and already bought 3 last week. :)

We are 20 weeks pregnant!

Bwahahaha, I just have to post this.  I am so excited because now I am on my maternity jeans.  But I guess I should just borrow my husband's jeans hahaha.  You can tell, from either one of us, that we are really 20 weeks pregnant hahaha
